The Background

The client, a large information technology services company offers custom solutions and services in the Supply Chain Management (SCM) domain. They wanted to productize their supplier management solution and move it to the cloud. Their preferred choice of platform to build their app was Force.com, and for it to be listed on Salesforce’s AppExchange. The app would allow subscribers (Buyers) to manage their suppliers on a large scale and bridge the gap between demand and supply.

The Challenge

Part of the product required an efficient and cost effective solution which would enable Suppliers and Buyers (subscriber of the app) to securely view and exchange information between themselves. The app would enable Suppliers to login and view/acknowledge purchase orders, raise change requests, manage capacity and forecasting information for materials. And an interface for Buyers to upload purchase orders, review change requests, and run several reports on data provided by their suppliers.

The Solution

Bit Oder recommended the use of partner communities and chatter, in order to provide a secure and cost effective way for Buyers and Suppliers to collaborate within the Force.com app. Bit Order built several Supplier functionalities and features in a way that could easily be custom branded and exposed to Suppliers via partner communities.

The Result

With Force.com platform expertise and an agile development methodology, Bit Order was able to build the app entirely from scratch and list it on AppExchange in seven weeks, in record time to be available for launch during Dreamforce (annual Salesforce event). Existing customers of the client were migrated from the old Java based onpremise solution to the existing cloudbased Force.com app, who are currently leveraging partner communities and chatter to collaborate with their suppliers.
